All About Munchkin Bernedoodles

What is a Munchkin Bernedoodle?
Our breeding program has never been about creating the smallest dog possible—it’s about creating the best dog possible.
Every pairing is chosen with temperament as our highest priority, followed closely by health, sound structure, and the classic teddy bear appearance families love.
Our Munchkin Bernedoodles are an exciting extension of that philosophy. By thoughtfully introducing the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel into select Bernedoodle lines, we can reduce size while increasing genetic diversity, which we believe can contribute to healthier dogs for generations to come. The Cavalier also naturally complements the Bernese Mountain Dog in both structure and personality, helping us preserve the affectionate temperament, sturdy build, rounded features, and unmistakable Bernedoodle expression we love.
Most Munchkin Bernedoodles are expected to mature between 15 and 25 pounds, although certain pairings may produce puppies closer to 10 pounds. Their coats are typically wavy to curly and may be low-shedding, depending on the individual puppy and pairing.
These dogs are bred to be loving, people-oriented companions. We expect them to be gentle with children, eager to please, intelligent, and adaptable to many different lifestyles. The Cavalier influence often brings an additional layer of affection and companionship, while the Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle help preserve the trainability and easygoing nature that have made Bernedoodles such beloved family dogs.
What Makes a Munchkin Bernedoodle Different?
A Munchkin Bernedoodle typically combines Bernese Mountain Dog, Poodle, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel genetics. This carefully planned blend allows us to offer families a smaller companion without sacrificing the qualities that made us fall in love with Bernedoodles in the first place.
Unlike some very small doodle varieties that become increasingly Poodle-influenced as their size decreases, our goal is to maintain the balanced structure, calm temperament, and soft teddy bear look of a traditional Bernedoodle. We are not simply breeding for a number on the scale. We are thoughtfully reducing size while continuing to prioritize the whole dog.
At CW Bernedoodles, every decision begins with temperament and health.
Through careful health testing, intentional pairings, and extensive early socialization, we strive to raise confident, affectionate puppies with beautiful structure and the foundation needed to become wonderful lifelong companions.

Munchkin vs. Traditional Bernedoodles
Our traditional Mini and Micro Mini Bernedoodles contain only Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle genetics. Munchkin Bernedoodles include Cavalier King Charles Spaniel genetics as well, so they are considered a distinct cross within our program.
Whether a family chooses a traditional Micro Mini Bernedoodle or a Munchkin Bernedoodle, our purpose remains the same: to thoughtfully reduce size without sacrificing temperament, structure, health, or overall appearance. Each generation should continue to reflect the care, quality, and intention behind our program.
Please note that our Munchkin Bernedoodle waitlist is kept separate from our traditional Bernedoodle waitlist. When joining, be sure to specify which type of puppy you are interested in so we can place you on the correct list.
